LouFest Favs

#FromLouToShiningLou has offish become an annual tradition. We took 64 across a handful of states and spent the weekend with DoStuff friends in St. Louis for LouFest. We were initially attracted to this festival at random last year, based on the diverse and exciting lineup, proximity, schedule (Saturday and Sunday is nice for us teachers), and low-key-ness.

Here are some of the major highlights:

Mud didn’t stop ANYBODY

It was stupid muddy. Torrential rain on Friday left Forest Park less than solid, and definitely created some problems over the weekend. That being said, I heard minimal complaining and actually more people embracing the earthy lifestyle, ditching shoes or even taking a full on mud bath.

Big hitters slayed

We previewed the festival with a few sets we were pretty pumped for. And guess what? They all lived up to our hype and maybe even surpassed it. We were taken aback by how compelling Anderson .Paak was live and Charles Bradley and crew once again left my jaw on the floor. Ms. Lauryn Hill played her classics but with twists thrown in to keep us all on our toes.

Fam

Through this LML gig we’ve met all kinds of folks that have gone from acquaintances to friends (especially all the cool kids over at Do314 & Do502!).

You can’t beat September in St. Louis

Rain aside, those cool fall temps felt magnificent. While summer fests are wonderful in their own way, it’s such a nice change of pace to enjoy two full days of outdoor jams without sweating profusely.

Looking ahead…

Besides the fact that several of these artists are coming through town in the near future, we are already looking ahead to next year!

Here’s who’s coming to Louisville soon!

10/28: Twin Limb album release!!!!!

11/7: Band of Horses AND Wild Belle will be taking over the Palace

11/9: Big Gigantic is donating part of the proceeds to Fund for the Arts for this Mercury show

11/25: Twin Limb is opening for Jim James so get your tickets QUICK before they sell out

12/15: Ms. Lauryn Hill was originally scheduled for Lou right after LouFest but it’s been pushed back to December. Hey, it gives us something to look forward to in the cold!
