Live Music Lou’s Can’t Miss: September 10 – 16

Another packed week in The Ville. Not only are the Cards and College Game Day in town, but there are a bajillion other entertainment options happening.

Sunday (9/10) –

Foster The People with Palm Springsteen and Frederick The Younger

Although the older shit is our favorite, we have to respect an album 2 years in the works. We were pleased with Foster The People the first time we saw them in town. With the always delightful Frederick The Younger and an innovative new jam out of LA (Palm Springsteen) on the bill, it is set to be a glorious evening at Iroquois.

David Barbe and Inward Dream Ebb

Another Athens, GA musician who kills. David Barbe has new music out. Come hear 10th of Seas in the flesh.

Varsity with Dry Summers

But like, why wouldn’t you want to spend your Sunday at Zbar with a couple of cool bands?

PeteFest

The first annual PeteFest wraps up on Sunday. The weather is literally perfect, so why not spend your Sunday Funday there?!

Monday (9/11) –

Cherry Glazerr, Winter

This has my attention. Which is I think part of the goal for Cherry Glazerr. Young and fun and talented AF.

Tuesday (9/12) –

Kevin Morby

Kevin Morby caught my ear pre-Bonnaroo and this announcement got me hyped. If you don’t know this man, come get educated at Zbar.

May It Last: A Portrait of The Avett Brothers

Like the Avett Bros? Like documentaries?  Well, Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio directed this chronical of one of our favorites. The Speed is hosting the viewing and the 7pm showing is sold out so jump on the 9pm STAT!

Wednesday (9/13) –

Company of Thieves

Company of Thieves is back! Zbar hosts night two of their fall reunion tour and we should all be verrrry pumped.

Sheer Mag w/Flesh World and Cereal Glyphs

Kaiju is always a lively spot, but this Philly band will really get things going. Especially for a Wednesday.

Thursday (9/14) –

KYLE

AKA Super Duper Kyle? iSpy is by this dude? I had no idea! However, I’m kinda mad because he just cancelled his set up at Middle Waves, the lil fest in my hometown this weekend…mad rude!

The Lonely Biscuits, Okey Dokey

The Lonely Biscuits are back in town and they have a few new singles out!

Friday (9/15) –

We Listen For You 10th Birthday

Happy ten years We Listen For You (aka Zach Hart)! This blog has been around and impacted the local scene for a full decade and deserves our celebration. Congrats, friend!

4th Annual Smoketown GetDown for Democracy

Smoketown, fuck yeah. Democracy, fuck yeah. Jefferson County Chapter of Kentuckians For The Commonwealth and Kertis Creative co-host this free block party. There will be music, beer, food trucks, and stuff for all members of the family. Show out!

Fox Grin, New Bravado, White Knight

The Cure Lounge is the spot for some psychedelic tuneage this Friday night.

Peter Wesley & The Super Friends

Feelin’ a little hip hop tonight? Head to Kaiju.

Boney James live with special guest Alex Bugnon

Boney James is a jazz saxophonist and Alex Bugnon is a jazz pianist. These men can play a tune.

38 Special

A couple of neighborhood friends turned band now have decades of time in the music industry behind them.

Saturday (9/16) –

Bryson Tiller with H.E.R. + Metro Boomin

Our boy is back for his big show! We were lucky enough to get tickets to the pop up show at Mercury this past spring, but this is the big one. He has officially made it…the KFC Yum! Center. Bryson Tiller is exciting and all, but H.E.R. is even more intriguing because of how mysterious this artist is. She remains anonymous… with social media, like how is that possible?

National Jug Band Jubilee

A Jug Band may seem like a historic form of music, yet this national event continues to draw fans yearly. It is free and after a few days getting wet with Irma, the weekend is panning out to be quite nice.

Beware The Images, Mike Adams

Mike Adams is a Bloomington lad and will be in Fort Wayne with us the night before. Gonna try and speed up there after school for his set because I like what I hear on Spotify.

GWAR

This show is certainly not for the faint of heart.

Future Killer and Shapes on Tape

Nachbar’s outdoor space is pretty killer this time of year, and it’s a great spot for a late night show.
