Moth Story Slam (Topic: Caution)
Enjoy testimonies from real people without any scripts, notes, or rehearsal? Then Headliners is where you need to be this Tuesday night. This non-profit, famous podcast and organization is all about highlighting the truth about humanity. The topic for this series is caution, and will feature any and anyone, potentially including you, to speak for five minutes about their life story. Check out The Moth Podcast for an idea of what these episodes are all about.
Wednesday (8/30) –
WFPK Waterfront Wednesday: Iron & Wine, James Lindsey, In Lightning
This started as a locals only affair but White Reaper is out on the road with like Spoon or something casual. Iron & Wine is an excellent substitute. Last time we saw him it was way back in the day at our first Shaky Knees and the sound was awful. I am fairly confident this will be better. And hot damn, he’s got a new album! The other 2/3 of the lineup remains local and awesome. You know we love you JL and IL. ❤
Katie James, Rose Hotel, Mother Runaway
Who said Wednesdays had to be boring? Come down to Zanzabar for a night of three different bands with a similar genre, and all female vocals. Each band has a vibe of Florence + The Machine mixed with Norah Jones. Haven’t heard of these bands? No problem, see them live and get to know them up close and personal!
Haymarket. It has been too long. The back room hosts this Bloomington man who plays old time banjo and fiddle tunes.
Friday (9/1) –
Zach Longoria Project with Kevin Cummings Band
This Louisville band is heading across the river to New Albany for the summer concert series. Prepare for the seductive, lustrous sounds of ZLP.
Wait, Tyrese Tyrese? He’s coming to Louisville? And will be singing? Oh lordy. Remind yourself of why this is important.
Brooks Ritter and The Lower Lights, Joshua Powell & The Great Train Robbery
Originate from Indiana? This is a night for you. Two Indiana natives take the Zanzabar stage. Get ready for dynamic voices and some good folk music.
Trickster Sister EP release show with John Gage
Goodwood’s Friday jamming is kicked up a notch with this EP release show.
Saturday (9/2) –
Just announced! The boys will be taking over Dusty’s Living Room. Meanwhile, your wonderful host will be preparing your Saturday evening dinner, which you can enjoy on his couches as your ears are blessed with Phourist’s new tunes. Plus, BYOB, soooo be there.
Butchertown Social (the old Louis’s The Ton) has picked up steam since its opening. Hillbilly Revival will provide that bluegrass you love with a few fun quirks.
Tycoon$ of Teen, On The Bang, Memory Gloss
These bands are described as such: Tycoon$ of Teen (cuddly pop pop), On the Bang (psychedelic post grunge/punk/sarah osborne), Memory Gloss (!!!). Yup.
Always a fucking party. Guaranteed.
All Weekend –
Celebrate the many cultures of the world and this weekend long event at the Belvedere. This 15th annual event is a hugely unifying.
So this weekend long party has happened multiple years, and actually occurs in multiple cities as well. “PRF stands for Premiere Rock Forum; a moniker given to the online community of musicians, bands, music nerd, gear geeks, recording wizard, and audio junkies that are all members of the message board for Chicago’s Electrical Audio recording studio.” Sounds rowdy.
Kentucky Music & Bourbon Experience
Celebrate some of Kentucky’s best traditions at the Louisville Water Tower this holiday weekend.
