Live Music Lou’s Can’t Miss: January 10-16

This is about to be a special week, y’all. 2016’s first Winter Wednesday, Nick B’s EP release, and MADONNA. Hopefully you’re joining us to see the queen next weekend. Check social media for live updates of the shows we are at, and come back here for a review afterwards.

Wednesday (1/13) –

WFPK Winter Wednesday with Gabe Dixon, Brooke Annibale

These two solo artists have majestic voices that will beautifully fill the Clifton Center on Wednesday evening. WFPK has a knack for choosing artists that fit just right for each session – this month’s pick is spot on.

All Them Witches

It’ll be a change of pace from Winter Wednesday if you head to Zbar after the show, but it sounds like it will be an exciting show. The Nashville based band puts on sets described as explosive, which may be exactly what you need to get through the rest of the week. Check ’em out before their Forecastle set this summer.

Thursday (1/14) –

Julien Baker

The 20 year old junior at Middle Tennessee State is getting in a short East Coast tour before heading back to school for her spring semester begins, and we’re lucky enough to kick off that tour. Zbar will play host to the singer-songwriter whose debut album Sprained Ankle has received accolades from the likes of The New York Times.

Ray J’s Birthday Bash with Ya playa potna Big Homie, DJ Empty Beats, & Special Guest

Aubrey’s first response to seeing this posted on Do502 was, “Wait – Ray J, Ray J?!” Yes. Help Headliners celebrate the man’s birthday in style.

Friday (1/15) –

Nick B EP Release Show with DJ Deuce, Touch AC, Jordan Jetson, and Eons D

This free show at Haymarket is one you for sure shouldn’t miss. We listened to the EP a while ago with Do502 and it sounds pretty awesome. Nick B – you’re one talented dude.

The Americans, Quiet Hollers

Following their WFPK Live Lunch set, The Americans will make a pit-stop on Preston for an evening at The New Vintage. Their bluesy rockabilly folk music will fit right in with local favorites Quiet Hollers – and mostly I want to know which of these young gents has that gruff voice that is so intriguing.

Biz Markie presents 80s vs. 90s Mashup Bash

We’re on a roll this week with some throwbacks. Biz Markie will take over Mercury with whatever an 80s vs. 90s Mashup Bash is. Sounds like it could be a good time.

Saturday (1/16) –

Madonna “The Rebel Heart Tour”

For her first ever visit to Louisville, we obviously have to be in attendance. The question is, what to wear?!

San Fermin

If it weren’t for Madonna, we’d definitely be up close for San Fermin. Jackrabbit was a favorite of ours this year (duh, it’s amazing), and their most recent single “No Devil” is pretty epic, too. Ellis Ludwig-Leone not only has the vision, but knows how to perfectly combine all of the elements that makes this band so unique.

Wild Child

The 7 piece band probably figured out how to squeeze onto Zbar’s stage this past July, so this time should be a piece of cake. If you’re looking for a chill evening with some good music, this is your spot.
