Live Music Lou’s Can’t Miss: December 20-26

Merry Christmas, ya’ll! We’re both heading to our hometowns for the holidays (Aub plans on checking out The Brass Rail in Fort Wayne while we’re gone this week) but there are still some options for those of you in Louisville this glorious holiday week. Once you’ve had enough family time, get out and do something!

Monday (12/21) –

Vinyl Night

Vinyl Night is always an option. If you’re off of work already (like us) and have already seen Star Wars, then you should probably be at Haymarket.

Tuesday (12/22) –

Voodoo Economics – Record Release Show

After listening briefly to this Louisville band, I believe they’re something we’d be into. They are celebrating the release of their album, Sick of Talking, at The New Vintage and will be supported by Funkasaurus and The New Shitbirds. AKA sounds like fun.

Honeychild Coleman

This Brooklyn based artist sounds pretty unique. I think this mid-week, Dreamland show with Honeychild Coleman will be oddly cheerful. Fun fact: she’s from Louisville (Okolona, in fact), and LEO Weekly did a feature on her last week – check it out and then go see her!

Wednesday (12/23) –

Honky Tonk Holidaze featuring Steve Cooley, Jeff Guemsey, Emily Portman, Stephen Couch, Ricky Puckett and Dave Johnson with Brigi

Get your blues on at Headliners with this lineup. They’ll help ya loosen up for all those crazy relatives you’re about to be spending too much time with.

Smithsmas

This Zanzabar Holiday tradition includes a mix-tape exchange, Christmas joy, and, well The Smiths.

Friday (12/25) –

I’m Dreaming of a White Stripes Christmas

This event is described as follows: “Christmas is about FAMILY; and when you are tired of yours, come on down to the Zanzabar to celebrate Rock n Roll’s most confusing family: The White Stripes.” Sounds scandalous and I like it.

Saturday (12/26) –

Where It’s At: Justin Timberlake vs. Beck

Supporting Strive, this post-Christmas jam sesh brings together many recognized names in the Louisville music scene in a battle royale of sorts – Team Beck versus Team JT.  Let’s see who brings it.

Big & Tall, Kogan Dumb, Dr. Dundiff, Solle

If JT and Beck aren’t your thing, hit up The New Vintage for an evening with some of your fav hip hop artists. Or do both because, why not?
