Everyone knows that The Avett Brothers came to Louisville for a three night stay at The Palace, along with lots of hype and hoopla. I’m pretty sure no one was surprised when they lived up to all of it. My only regret was not jumping both feet in and getting tickets for all three nights. We purchased the Friday night tickets pretty much immediately when they went on sale, and spent the few extra dollars to be closer to the stage. Needless to say, we had been looking forward to this one for a while. This was the third time we’ve seen Avett perform and the venue was a pleasant change that made it maybe the most enjoyable of the three- the first time was Forecastle ’13 and the second was at Rupp that November. The Palace is just such a beautiful place and was a perfect backdrop for this masterful group. The setlist of their two hour show was different from the other two we had seen. And from what I’ve read about all three nights, each night was different with very few repeats of songs. It was exactly what I needed after a long week. At one point I turned to Brittany and confessed that I couldn’t stop smiling- cheesy, I know, but it was true. Towards the end of show, Seth said they would spend 10 nights in Louisville… wouldn’t that be nice?
