Live Music Lou’s Can’t Miss: May 21 – 27

It is a big week once again, with substantial music (and non-music) features every day. We’re especially fired up as the school year OFFICIALLY WRAPS UP! Stamina, friends. See you out!

Sunday (5/21) –

Tears for Fears

Head to the Palace for some 80s bangers.

Louder Than Life Presents Skillet with Starset and Skylar

Cross your fingers about the weather. Louder Than Life is known for living up to their name.

Blair Crimmins & The Hookers

Atlanta, GA apparently produces jazz/dixieland/ragtime bands like this one.

Monday (5/22) –

Ty Segall with Black Birds of Paradise, Ted Tyro

Ty Segall is a young guy with a shit load of time on the scene. He isn’t afraid to push the boundary and will certainly entertain a massive Headliners crowd.

An Evening with BOSTON

Lots of throwbacks this week. Take it back with BOSTON!

Robot Jurassic, Bruised Fruit, Bon Air, Rarebit

This sounds goofy.

Tuesday (5/23) –

Mumford and Sons with Kevin Garrett

Kevin Garrett is going from the old Zbar stage to the KFC Yum! Center. And Mumford is just, well, Mumford. It will be a special evening. Ya’ll know what Mumford and Sons looks like, so here’s a pic of Kevin Garrett from Communion back in the day.

Tech N9ne: Strictly Strange Tour

Tech N9ne has been a mainstay of the hip-hop and R&B scene for upwards of 30 years. Holy cow.

Wednesday (5/24) –

Diarrhea Planet

It is a good time every damn time these fellas are in town. This is the last day of school, so you know we’ll be rowdy.

Thursday (5/25) –

Shooter Jennings

Good time Southern Rock at Headliners.

Eric Church “Holdin’ My Own” Tour

Not our thing, really, but I get it. Get you some.

Jermaine Dupri Presents SosoSummer 17 Tour

So Dupri and Queen Latifah apparently have a show, The Rap Game, which will be the focus of this young-person friendly rap concert. The show’s winners Miss Mulatto and Mani will headline the event. Deetranada, Supa Peach, Prince of NY, Lil Key, King Roscoe, Nia Kay and others are on the tour. Jermaine Dupri will host and Bow Wow & Da Brat will co-host. Okay, I can dig it.

Jake Clemons (E Street Band) – Abbey Road on the River Kick Off

This is a treat. Clemons, of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, can play the saxophone like a beast. This is a free show across the Big Four Bridge in Jeffersonville. Why not?

Friday – Sunday (5/26-5/28)

Abbey Road On The River

Another location move for AROTR, but it will be the same good time.

Kentucky Reggae Festival

Getusome flavor of the Caribbean on the Waterfront.

Friday (5/26) –

James Lindsey

James Lindsey kicks off the Against The Grain-hosted event, The Local Lineup. We. Are. Pumped.

Jacob Needham & The Blue Trees with Friends, Featuring Hannan, Kites & Natty Dread

Alternative Americana from our friends down in Birmingham.

Blackfoot Gypsies, Sound Company

Blackfoot Gypsies are a Nashville band that find themselves in KY often. A stop at Zanzabar for some TN rock and roll is exactly what your Friday night needs.

Kentuckiana Blues Road Show

This week’s addition of The New Albany Bicentennial Park Summer Concert Series hosts Kentuckiana Blues Road Show.

Live Music Friday with Tyrone Cotton

Goodwood for the win!

Saturday (5/27) –

Kevin Ross

This young Motown singer is catching the attention of R&B fans with his new album, The Awakening.

Pink Droyd Performs Animals

So Pink Droyd is from Fort Wayne, so that’s neat. Also, they’ll be playing Animals to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of this concept album.

Sophomore Lounge “Expensive Decade: Ten Years of Bulls#!%”

SHIT there are a lot of people on this bill from all over the place. Kaiju will be bopping all day and all night. Swing by for this celebration of Sophomore Lounge Records.
