Louisville Doin’ The Most

We seriously packed it in last weekend and think it was worthy of sharing with you all, so here you go!

Friday

After stopping by the Kentuckiana Pride Fest, Do502‘s Amelia and I headed to Mercury Ballroom to check out AWOLNATION. The place was LIT. The sold out crowd was lively and super engaged in the equally dynamic band. From my spot in the pit while taking pictures I got a great view of all of the super fans singing along. We couldn’t stay for the entire set but our short encounter was a big + for this indie, electro band.

Next stop of the marathon evening was my first experience with outerSPACE’s weekly dance party, Science Friction. I’m not usually a dancer myself but Sam Sneed and crew got me moving.

Last pin in the night was another introductory meeting with TasTe DJ’s The Pull Up at The New Vintage. TasTe DJs are a collaborative group of men from Louisville and Lexington.  I walked into another dance sesh and I admittedly wasn’t mad about it.  I am a little out of the loop with what the best hip-hop is these days but each DJs set was diverse in their picks and featured lots of the oldies/goodies (i.e. my personal favorite Lil Wayne.)

Saturday

There were two big, local events Saturday night and we hit them both.  To start, Jack Harlow had his glorified graduation party at Mercury Ballroom with a couple hundred of his friends (and us.)  This city, particularly his youthful counterparts, love Handsome Harlow and they all showed up for the 18 year old rapper. His latest album, 18, dropped a few days ago so we heard a lot of those songs.  In my opinion the new stuff showed a lot of growth for the young man. The album goes deeper than anything from him I’ve heard before: “Obsessed” with Otis Junior and Nemo Achida is quite nice. Bravo, sir, and good luck with your next endeavors- get out there and show the rest of the country what Lou loves about you!

Another celebration was in order at outerSPACE, this time for Night Visions Radio and their 5 Year Anniversary on the airwaves at WFPK. They brought in some all-star friends (DJ Spinn is who we caught) to play for them and it was dope.

Solid effing weekend, Louisville. Let’s do it again soon.
